Danger Close film review: Telling of Vietnam battle in poor taste

Based on a book by Jacqueline Wilson, itself inspired by a classic Edwardian story by E. Nesbit, Four Kids And It is a winningly old-fashioned family adventure. Matthew Goode and Paula Patton play David and Alice, two recently separated people who have fallen in love – much to the horror of their children. On a supposed bonding holiday in Cornwall, the four kids take to the beach and discover a magical beast called the Psammead (charmingly voiced by Michael Caine). It lives beneath the sand and has the power to grant wishes, but the children soon discover that’s not necessarily a good thing. This film is whimsical, but in a good way.
